Bold Nelson's Praise commemorates the victory at Trafalgar in song, music and the written word. It brings together naval and maritime songs of Nelson's time, traditional songs celebrating his victories, jigs, reels and hornpipes, all interwoven with extracts from contemporary accounts, letters and journals. The show reflects the lives of the people, who were involved in those great events. The programme also includes a short, light hearted 'folk' drama presented by the band members. The entire evening is performed in appropriate period costume and with enormous good humour.
The New Scorpion Band is made up of Tim Laycock, Brian Gulland, Robin Jeffrey, Sharon Lindo and Robert White; five musicians whose talents are second to none. Their performances typically include 25 traditional instruments, all of which are appropriate for 19th century performance, and they all sing. Collectively they put on a show that is pure entertainment. "The vocal arrangements are moving and beautiful and the standard of musicianship is exceptional" - Living Tradition.
If you've seen them before you'll certainly want a ticket, if you've not, you are in for a rare treat. Book early to avoid disappointment.
